- Hello!

- yangsup@red.seas.upenn.edu (The Man) asked:
- >Does any one know how to use "video toaster" for amiga 2500?

-
- I use an 68030-equipped Amiga 2000 with a NewTek Video Toaster installed
- to do anime fansubbing myself and it works fantastic! The Toaster can act
- as a genlock. Just run the Toaster software. Then in the main Switcher
- screen, there will be a series of buttons on the lower left (labeled 1, 2,
- 3, 4, DV1, DV2, and DV3). Click on the number 1 on both rows, making sure
- your laserdisc input is going into the top BNC input on the back of the
- Toaster card). Also click on the FREEZE button so that it no longer
- 'lighted up.' Then click the SETUP buttton and click QUIT on the next
- screen. The Toaster is now in its genlock mode, so that you can use a
- good subtitling program such as the most excellent JACOsub.
-
- Also remember that a laserdisc player is the only thing that can generate
- a signal stable enough not to require yet another piece of hardware used
- by the Toaster. If you plan on using a VCR as a playback device instead
- of a laserdisc player, you will need to get a TBC (time-based corrector)
- card ($800 to $1200) to use in conjunction with the Toaster.
- Consumer-level VCRs do not generate a stable enough signal for
- professional-level devices such as the Toaster to work properly, so a TBC
- card can correct the sync problems between the two devices.
-
- Don't try to use the Character Generator program that comes with the
- Toaster for anime subtitling as it just was not meant for that purpose.
- The only time I use that for anime fansubbing is to generate text for
- framestores (video stills) I may add for generic music videos. Go with
- JACOsub for the actual subtitling program.
-
- Because of its overall versitility for desktop video, the Video Toaster is
- simply unbeatable for desktop video production. The SuperGen genlock for
- the Amiga is probably the best genlock available for any personal
- computer, but the Video Toaster's genlock ranks up there with it, and
- already provides broadcast-quality output. Not too many video devices for
- any personal computer can have this claim. Email me if you have any more
- questions.
-
- Have fun! Ja ne!
